The New FT-IR OMEGA 5 Toxicity Test System – an Advanced Gas Analyzer Used for Continuous Measurement of Combustion Gases in Conjunction with the TCC 918 Cone Calorimeter
Robert Russow, Director Research & Development, NETZSCH TAURUS Instruments GmbH
The cone calorimeter TCC 918 is a fire testing device based on the principle of oxygen consumption during combustion. It is used by leading fire research groups as a data source for properties of materials and for models to predict fire behaviour. The sample surface can be radiated with different heat fluxes by this device and the sample ignites and burns in ambient air. The most important results are time to ignition, mass loss, smoke amounts, heat release rate and other parameters related to burning properties of a fuel. The combination of the TCC 918 with the FT-IR system Omega5 also enables the analysis of toxic gases released during combustion. Possible fire scenarios can thus be presented even more extensively. We want to present the TCC 918 with the basic functions and we will give you an impression about the FT-IR Omega5 system with heated transfer line as complete solution with hard- and software package for easy application.
Mr. Russow is responsible for research and development at NETZSCH TAURUS Instruments GmbH in Weimar. Already during his studies of computer science at the Bauhaus University in Weimar, he came into contact with building materials and measuring equipment at an early stage. In 2013, he started his professional career at TAURUS Instruments and began to acquire expert knowledge in the field of thermal conductivity and fire testing. Already in 2016 he became the head of the fire testing department and became an important contact person for more and more customers for questions regarding fire testing. With the merger of TAURUS Instruments with NETZSCH, he took over the leading management for the areas of fire testing and thermal conductivity at NETSCH TAURUS Instruments.
